Once-stalled Long Island City condo, a decade in the making, rises

By amol on July 7, 2017

A long Island City condo building that’s been a decade in the making has finally begun to make some significant progress. The 25-story building topped out in February this year, and now, construction site photos by NyConstructionPhoto reveal that the building has been fitted with a large portion of its glass facade as well.

A different iteration of this project was first announced in 2007, according to The Real Deal. Despite launching sales, the project, located at 27-17 42nd Road, was never able to get off the ground, and that developer sold it to the current owner, Eastern Star Development, for $44 million in 2014.

Construction finally got underway in 2015, and it seems that the condo has made steady progress since. In all, the the building will bring 182 condos to Long Island City, in a mix of one and two-bedrooms.

In April, the developer submitted an offering plan for the condo which revealed that they were looking for a staggering $253.3 million sellout, meaning apartments here would cost $1.4 million on average.

That TRD notes would easily make it one of the most expensive condo buildings in the neighborhood. Construction on the project is supposed to wrap by the end of this year. Star Tower, as this condo is known, is one of over 40 new developments in various stages of construction in the neighborhood right now.
