Shark found on the N train

A number of Astoria-bound N-train riders discovered a shark on the subway in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The shark was first noticed when a rider got on at the 34th Street station at around 12:30 am, according to a Gothamist tipster, who was taken aback by a fishy stench.

“I board a car that’s not terribly full and as soon as I enter, a stench hits my nose,” said the tipster, Mary M. “It’s not the typical urine/trash smell, it’s…fishy? I look down to the end of the car to see a dead shark on the floor.”

According to photographs published on the Gothamist, at least one rider posed with the shark, placing a drink at its side, and what appears to be a cigarette near its mouth.

Once the train reached Queensboro Plaza, the train’s conductor required riders to move to a different car. When the train reached Astoria/Ditmars Boulevard, a supervisor pronounced the animal dead, placed it in a garbage bag and threw it away.

By early afternoon, the shark had its own Twitter handle, @NYCSubwayShark
