Sivercup Studios will be expanding into the South Bronx.
A new film and TV production studio will be built in the South Bronx. Silvercup Studios is going ahead with its plan to build a 120,000-square-foot facility in the Port Morris section, according to The Wall Street Journal.
It will be the Long Island City, Queens-based company’s third facility in the city. Silvercup, known for its production of HBO’s Girls and The Sopranos, bought the property at 295 Locust Ave. from Simone Development Co. for $15 million, and is investing $20 million to transform it into four production studios.
The new location will be likely boost the South Bronx neighborhood’s economy by creating jobs and attracting dollars from the film industry.
