Long Beach, NY: Contaminated water, no power

By amol on October 31, 2012

LONG BEACH, N.Y. (AP) — In Long Beach, Long Island, the city’s water is contaminated and the electricity is out.

Several dozen people gathered Wednesday at a free cell phone charging station outside a closed supermarket.

One of the shell-shocked residents recalled how he parked on higher ground, thinking his car was safe. It was filled with water and ruined.

David Sinicrope (SIHN’-uh-krohp) says cars were floating everywhere.

Now, he’s trying to decide whether to stay or leave.
