Train Derailment Causes LIRR Delays, Cancellations

By amol on October 10, 2012

A non-passenger train has derailed in Long Island City, blocking the Long Island City rail yard where diesel trains are stored.

Customers, especially those on the Port Jefferson and Oyster Bay branches, are advised to expect cancellations and delays. They should travel to Penn Station, Woodside or Jamaica for eastbound service.

NYC Transit is cross-honoring fares for customers to take the 7 train to Woodside, where LIRR service is available. Some eastbound trains will make added stops at Woodside to accommodate customers.

Check the latest LIRR service status here.
