QUEENS — New York Giants offensive tackle David Diehl was arrested for driving drunk Sunday night after he smashed his BMW into a pair of parked cars in Astoria, police and multiple news sources reported.
Diehl, 31, was reportedly watching a soccer game at a nearby bar before hopping into the luxury car and plowing into the parked vehicles on 35th Avenue near 31st Street, police said.
He was awaiting arraignment Monday morning at Queens Criminal Court on charges of driving while intoxicated. He reportedly blew a 0.18 on a Breathalyzer test, more than twice the legal limit, the Post and Daily News reported.
Cops flagged Diehl at about 8:20 p.m. after he reportedly slammed into the two vehicles after watching the Croatian national soccer team beat Ireland.
Diehl, who has Croatian roots, tweeted Sunday afternoon during the team’s 3-1 victory.
“Goooooaaaaaallllllllllllllll!!!!!” he wrote shortly before 3 p.m.
Before the arrest, he had reportedly been at Scorpio Cafe and Bar on Broadway, where he was photographed cheering the team on during the 2012 European Championship match.
Diehl was drafted by the Giants in 2003 and has started every game with the team since.
He won the Wellington Mara NFL “Man of the Year” award last month and has done charity work in the past.
