Straphanger Falls To Death
Police said a man in his 20s fell to his death on the tracks of the Broadway station on the “N”  line in Long Island City early Sunday morning, April 1.
Cops who arrived at the station at 5:20 a.m. Sunday morning made the grisly discovery of the man, pinned underneath the Manhattan-bound “N” train.
Rescuers pulled the man to the platform where he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Transit Police officials said it appeared the man fell to the tracks accidentally. Police are conducting an investigation to determine the exact cause, officials said.

Body Found At Riker’s
Queens detectives and Department of Corrections officials are awaiting the results of an autopsy by the city medical examiner to determine the cause of death of a man whose body floated up to the Riker’s Island coastline on March 20.
The fully-clothed body, believed to be that of a Hispanic man in his 20s, was discovered at about 1:55 p.m. on March 20, near Hazen Street.
Authorities said there were no signs of trauma and the man did not appear to have been beaten or assaulted.
Police are urging anyone with information to call the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-899-577-TIPS or click on www.nypdcrimestoppers.com.

Subway Jumper
Subway service on the elevated “N” line was shut down for more than two hours on March 20 as rescue workers removed the body of a straphanger from the tracks at the 30th Avenue station in Long Island City.
Police did not release the name of the 34-year-old man who was killed when he jumped in front of a northbound train at the station, at about 1:41 p.m. on March 20.
Eyewitnesses told police the man was standing on the subway platform when he suddenly jumped in front of the incoming train.
Investigators are still trying to determine a motive for the suicide.

Fuel Spill Causes BQE Jam
A large oil spill on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway tied up traffic in East Elmhurst for several hours on March 14.
Police said emergency responders worked several hours cleaning the roadway and removing oil from a truck that caused the spill at about 1:30 p.m.
Traffic entering Queens from the Triborough Bridge was forced to remain on the eastbound Grand Central Parkway, rather than exit onto the BQE. The move caused massive delays for drivers who had to remain on the parkway to the next exit, authorities said.
Fire officials said the truck carrying the fuel was involved in a crash with at least one other vehicle near Astoria Boulevard. The front end of the Best Oil Company truck was damaged in the crash, officials said.
Firefighters at HazMat 1 arrived at the crash site at about 2:30 p.m. to begin the task of cleaning the highway, fire officials said. The truck was later towed from the site.
Fire officials said workers at Best Oil  also responded to the scene to help with the cleanup.

Armed Riker’s Guard Busted

A Riker’s Island Corrections Officer was arrested on March 31 after he flashed a gun during a dispute at an Astoria nightclub.
Cops said Ernesto Santos, 31, pulled the weapon at about 1:30 a.m., during an argument with a Court Officer at the Don Coqui Nightclub on 31st Street and 28th Road.
Santos was charged with attempted assault and criminal possession of a weapon at his arraignment at Queens Criminal Court.
