Gun-toting crook gets away with $10000 in cash from a Long Island City bank: cops

By amol on July 31, 2017

Armed with a gun and a demand note, a bandit swiped more than $10,000 in cash from a Long Island City bank last Friday afternoon, according to police.

Law enforcement sources said the robbery occurred sometime before 5:50 p.m. on July 28 at the Chase bank located at 25-15 Queens Plaza North, near 27th Street.

Authorities said the suspect — described as a black male standing 5 foot 4 inches tall — walked into the branch, approached a teller and presented a note demanding $50,000 in cash. He then unzipped the sweater he was wearing and revealed the butt of a black firearm in his waistband.

According to police, the teller provided the crook with $10,900 in cash; the suspect then took the money and fled the scene on foot, heading westbound on Queens Plaza North.

Officers from the 114th Precinct responded to the reported robbery; there were no injuries.

The same bank was the target of an attempted heist back in March, but it does not appear to be connected to the July 28 incident.

The NYPD Major Case Squad is conducting the investigation.
