The dark skies were brightened as fireworks were launched to celebrate the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

On Wednesday, June 28, thousands gathered at Fort Totten Park in Bayside to kick off Independence Day a few days early.

“What a fantastic way to kick off summer 2017 in Northeast Queens. Once again, thousands upon thousands gathered together at Fort Totten to celebrate our independence and community,” said Council Member Paul A. Vallone. “As Council Member for our amazing communities, I look forward to this event continuing to grow better and better each year!”

Here are a few shots from Fort Totten Park:

Fort Totten wasn’t the only Queens spot to see fireworks. Those who were hanging out at the Long Island City waterfront had an amazing view of this year’s Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks Show.
