Checking in on Long Island City’s 54-story rental tower by Rockrose

By amol on July 6, 2017

The redevelopment of the Eagle Electric warehouse in Long Island City has made significant progress since the residential building broke ground early last year. New construction site photos by NyConstructionPhoto reveal that the 54-story skyscraper has since topped out, and is currently being fitted with its glass facade.

The Rockrose-developed tower stands nearly 600 feet tall, and will bring 790 apartments to the neighborhood. Apartments here will measure just under 800 square feet on average, and start on the second floor of the building.

Amenities at the SLCE Architects-designed rental will be located on five floors from the cellar through the fourth floor, along with a terrace on the seventh floor. In May, the development team acquired a $255 million construction loan from Bank of America to move forward with their project. Part of the six-story Eagle Electric warehouse was demolished to make way for this tower, and what’s left will serve as the base of the rental building.

Construction is still expected to wrap up by the end of this year, but no word yet on when leasing will get underway. Rockrose’s skyscraper is just one of over 40 new developments that are in various stages of construction in Long Island City. Rockrose is also the developer behind Queens’ erstwhile tallest tower at 43-25 Hunter Street, where the developer also brought on SLCE to design.
