Woodside man dies after freight truck crash in Long Island City …

By amol on June 27, 2017

A 28-year-old Woodside man died on Saturday after colliding with a freight train at the intersection of Skillman Avenue and Queens Boulevard in Long Island City.

According to police, Steven Narvaez and a 17-year-old female passenger were traveling westbound in a 2013 Toyota Corolla sedan on June 24 at about 5:55 a.m. At the same time, a 2007 Freightliner tractor was traveling northbound on Queens Boulevard approaching Skillman Avenue.

The vehicles collided and the Toyota Corolla was found pinned underneath the truck. Narvaez was pronounced dead at the scene and the female passenger was taken to Elmhurst Hospital in critical condition.

According to the Daily News, Narvaez was a maintenance worker at LaGuardia Airport. He recently cut back his hours to take care of his mother, who recently had back surgery.

“My only son, my dear boy,” Lilliana Medina, 63, told the Daily News. “Why, God? He was such a good boy. He was too young! I want my son back! Why him?”

The truck driver stayed at the scene and there were no arrests. The investigation is ongoing.
