COURT SQUARE — A mini-plaza with tables and chairs may be coming to a stretch of Jackson Avenue in Long Island City.

Rockrose, a developer that owns several retail properties on Jackson Avenue, has applied to create a public seating area on the roadway between 43rd Avenue and 44th Drive, according to the Department of Transportation.

A DOT spokesman did not immediately respond to questions about the specific size of the proposed plaza, or if parking spots on the block would be removed to make way for the seating.

The plaza would be part of the DOT’s “Street Seats” program, which installs benches or tables and chairs in the roadbed next to the curb. The spaces are open to the public during warm weather and are maintained by the business or organization that sponsors them, according to the DOT’s website.

Rockrose did not respond to requests for comment about the plan. The developer owns several buildings on the block, including 26-25 Jackson Ave., where coffee chain Toby’s Estate opened in January.

An Italian restaurant and pizzeria is also slated to open two doors away in a Rockrose-owned building at 26-21 Jackson Ave., The Real Deal reported last year.

Queens Community Board 2’s Transportation Committee was expected to discuss the proposal Monday night, according to the board’s meeting agenda posted online.
