NEW YORK (FOX 5 NEWS) – A boom in the construction of apartment buildings over the past decade in Long Island City, Queens, leaves many to wonder if the neighborhood’s infrastructure can keep up with the growing population.

The Long Island City Partnership is a nonprofit working to promote economic development. The partnership just released a comprehensive plan to keep the community thriving. One recommendation is to bring more commercial, industrial and cultural space to compliment all the residential buildings.

The partnership also wants to improve the roads and street lighting for pedestrians, as well as create more bus routes within the community.

The city’s Economic Development Corporation told Fox 5 it fully support the plan and is working with residents and businesses to improve the infrastructure and transportation options.
