November 23, Staff Report

Residents will be able to catch a nostalgia train from Queens Plaza every Sunday before Christmas.

The trains are comprised of old subway cars that ran between the 1930s and early 1970s.

The nostalgia trains will run along the Sixth Avenue M-line on Sundays (November 27th, December 4th, 11, 18) between 10 am and 5 pm.  Western Queens residents can catch these trains at Queens Plaza. The schedule is listed below.

The trains, which are typically on display at the New York Transit Museum, have rattan seats, ceiling fans, incandescent bulb lighting, drop-sash style windows and roll signs.

“We owe a great deal to these City Cars, because they were durable work horses that remained in our fleet for 40 years,” said Wynton Habersham, NYC Transit’s senior vice president of subways, in a statement. “They are the foundation of every subway car we have designed since.”

In addition, vintage buses will run from December 5 through December 21 on the M42 line, which runs along 42nd Street in Manhattan. The fleet is comprised of buses that ran from the late 1940s to early 1970s.

The vintage coaches will operate between 9 am and 5 pm on weekdays.
