Cheer on NYC Marathon runners in Long Island City and avoid parking on these streets

By amol on November 4, 2016

The New York City Marathon will give about 50,000 runners a tour of the five boroughs this Sunday, Nov. 6, and Long Island City will mark the halfway point for hopeful winners.

Runners will snake through the Pulaski Bridge at mile 13, which connects Greenpoint to Queens. The bridge will be closed to spectators but a cheering section will be stationed near the Queens side of the bridge. For the sixth year in a row, the Queens Center for Progress will hand out kazoos, pompoms, balloons and cowbells to cheering fans.

Runners have also teamed up with their favorite charities to raise money. Long Island City resident Stephanie Littell partnered with 11 other runners to raise $3,000 each for a nonprofit called Answer the Call. Started by former New York Met Rusty Staub, the organization provides financial assistance and support to families of cops, firefighters, Port Authority police and EMS personnel who have been killed in the line of duty.

The following streets in Long Island City will also be closed from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. while the marathon takes place:

• Pulaski Bridge (Southbound)

• 48th Avenue between 11th Street and Vernon Boulevard

• Vernon Boulevard between 48th Avenue and 10th Street

• 10th Street between Vernon Boulevard and 44th Drive

• 44th Drive between 10th Street and Hunter Street

• Hunter Street between 44th Drive and Crescent Street

• Crescent Street between Hunter Street and Queens Plaza South

• Queens Plaza South between Crescent Street and 23rd Street

• Queens Plaza North between Crescent Street and 23rd Street

• 23rd Street between Queens Plaza South and Queens Plaza North

• Queensboro Bridge (Eastbound)
