CVS Pharmacy is coming to Long Island City next year

By amol on September 30, 2016

Developers have been filling Long Island City with new residential projects for several years but the area is still lacking in some basic services.

Now, residents will be able to pick up their prescriptions, snacks, school supplies from their children and more when a CVS comes to Hunters Point South Commons, LIC Talk first reported.

The official opening will be sometime in June 2017, according to CVS spokesperson Stephanie Cunha.

According to Frank Monterisi, senior vice president of the building’s management company Related Companies, CVS has signed a lease to occupy an 11,218-square-foot ground floor space at 1-50 50th Ave.

“CVS Pharmacy will be a great amenity for our residents at Hunter’s Point South and the growing Long Island City community,” Monterisi. “We look forward to their grand opening in 2017.”

Neighboring areas like Astoria and Sunnyside have several Rite Aid and CVS Pharmacies while Long Island City currently has none. There is a Duane Reade on 5th Street and most of the pharmacies in the neighborhood such as Nature’s Prescriptions and Vernon Boulevard Pharmacy are independently owned.
