Silent Disco dance party will light up the Long Island City waterfront on Friday

By amol on August 26, 2016

For the third year in a row, Long Island City will be able to jam silently to new and old songs at Hunters Point South Park.

Lincoln Center is bringing back the Silent Disco dance party, which is free, on Aug. 26.

DJs will broadcast disco, salsa and current dance hits to each individual’s headphones, which are lit up with different colors, to create a big dance party on the waterfront. The park is located at Center Boulevard and 54th Avenue.

Headphones are free but participants will have to bring a credit card or ID to receive one.

The event will be broken down into three parts. From 5 to 6:30 p.m. families are encoraged to attend the Silent Family Dance. From 7 to 7:30 p.m. dance instructor John Festa will give a half hour dance lessons to participants.

Finally, from 7:30 to 10 p.m., the Silent Dance Party will take place. DJs Freedom Party NYC and DJ Rimarkable will provide the music. Attendees will be able to switch to different stations by pushing a button on their headphones.

“Three years ago, we partnered with Lincoln Center to bring the first-ever Silent Disco to Queens, and it turned out to be one of the biggest events on the East River,” Van Bramer said. “Each year, the event has grown bigger and bigger, with thousands of people journeying to Long Island city to dance the night away under the stars.”

The event is held in partnership with Queens Borough President Melinda Katz, Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer, NYC Parks Queens Borough Commissioner Dorothy Lewandowski, and New York City Department of Parks Recreation.
