NYPD shuts down Club Purlieu, Long Island City nightspot plagued by stabbings, robberies and shootings

By amol on March 12, 2016

The city temporarily shuttered a troubled Queens club after a surprise raid late Thursday by the NYPD and a team of city inspectors, officials said.

Local lawmakers said Club Purlieu in Long Island City has been the scene of stabbings, robberies and shootings. A livery driver was critically wounded last week, shot in the head after dropping off passengers at the club.

In 2015, three people were slashed at the nightspot during a party for rapper Chedda Da.

“This is one of those chronic trouble spots,” said State Sen. Michael Gianaris (D-Queens). “We want the city to pull the permits and licenses and shut them down permanently.”

City Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer said he planned to hold a rally outside the club on Monday at 9:30 p.m. to show the city the neighborhood wants it to remain closed.

“Club Purlieu fosters violence, and it’s not the kind of business we want in our community or our city,” Van Bramer said.
