A Long Island school district is canceling trips to Manhattan and Washington, D.C., over “increasing concern of threats” in the wake of the Paris terror attacks.
In a letter addressed to parents Thursday, Connetquot schools superintendent Lynda G. Adams said the district would be postponing or canceling planned trips to New York City and the nation’s capital in November and December because of terror concerns.
“At this time we feel the reward of the school trip is outweighed by the risk associated with visitation to either of these places,” Adams said in the letter.
Trips to the two cities scheduled for next year are still being considered, Adams said.

According to Newsday, Oakdale-Bohemia Middle School had planned a trip to New York City on Dec. 18 so students could visit the Sept. 11 Memorial and Museum and see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular.
NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton lambasted the district’s decision on Friday.
It’s not the only school district canceling trips in the wake of the terror attacks in Paris. The Freehold School District also canceled a planned trip to Europe.
School districts nationwide also canceled or postponed trips to Washington and New York City in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.
