QUEENS — The 7 train resumed with “limited service” in time for Tuesday morning’s rush-hour commute a day after ice on the third rail knocked out the subway line, the MTA said.

Trains were running along the local track from Times Square to Flushing-Main Street, the MTA said in a 7 a.m. announcement.

There will also be fewer trains running on the tracks, the MTA said.

Service along the 7 line was completely shut down Monday morning about 9 a.m. when a Manhattan-bound train stalled just north of Queensboro Plaza because of ice on the third rail, officials said.

Trains that were out on their routes were pulled back into stations so people could get off, but some people were stranded between stops for up to two hours, the MTA said.

Even with some 7 trains returning Tuesday, it was not immediately clear when regular service would resume.

Commuters were told to expect delays and take alternate routes like the E, F, M and R if they can.

At the 74th Street 7 train station, which is not a stop on the express line, trains were arriving every few minutes on the local track.

But rider Michelle Garcia, 14, wasn’t going to risk taking her usual train to Long Island City High School after traveling for more than two hours Monday just to get home.

She was waiting on the 7 platform for friends but would be heading down once they arrived.

“Today I’m not going to risk it if the 7 train stops working, so I’m going to take the F to the Q100 bus,” she said.

Riders should check the MTA website for updates.
