Each year the Astoria / Long Island City Kiwanis Club distributes large containers to collect canned food for their 2014 Turkey Food Drive, from the beginning of November through December. The containers are located at various banks, stores, and other businesses in the community. The Astoria / Long Island City Kiwanis Club also provides turkeys for those in need. Vouchers are distributed to local churches and organizations, which are then given to families to help them have a Thanksgiving dinner.
The vouchers are given to K T Meats on Broadway for pickup of frozen turkeys. The Astoria / Long Island City Kiwanis Club each year donates over 1,000 pounds of frozen turkeys.
