LONG ISLAND CITY — A worker was seriously hurt Friday morning when he fell about 12 feet at a Northern Boulevard construction site, the third such incident in the past seven months, officials said.
The man, whose name was not immediately released, was installing metal decking on the 11th floor of 30-46 Northern Boulevard, near 31st Street, when he plunged about 11 a.m. and suffered traumatic injuries, according to the FDNY and the Department of Buildings.
He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital in stable condition, the FDNY said.
The DOB did not immediately have information about the incident.
The incident is the third fall at the site since November. A worker was knocked unconscious and taken to the hospital after falling 9 feet from a ladder on November 12, records show.
On February 25, a worker was injured when he fell about 6 feet onto a platform, buildings records show.
A woman who picked up the phone at the Brooklyn-based KSK Construction Group who said she’s responsible for handling DOB complaints blamed the workers for the incidents, saying they often don’t wear their safety harnesses.
“They have them, but sometimes they just don’t use them. That’s up to them,” said the woman, who declined to give her name. She did not immediately have information about the latest incident.
