Falchi Building

March 13, By Michael Florio

Local artists will soon be displaying their work at the Falchi Building, a former warehouse that has undergone a multimillion-dollar overhaul in recent months located at 31-00 47th Ave.

Jamestown Properties, which owns the Falchi Building and is best known for developing the Chelsea Market, is teaming up with Local Project, an LIC art organization, to select the work.

The artwork will be showcased in eight large glass display cases on the ground floor of the building—and will be part of the “In My Borough” exhibition.

Local Project seeks artwork that captures everyday city life—with a focus on a neighborhood.  The deadline to submit art is March 20.

Each submission has to be completed by a group, with at least one of the artists in the group required to live or work in Queens.

“We are encouraging artists to collaborate and work with others,” said Carolina Penafiel, the director of Local Project. She said Local Project wants to promote the concept of people coming together and sharing ideas.

The selected artwork will be on display next month and be up for four months.

The art will be the newest addition to the Falchi Building, which added an artisanal food market last fall called the Food Box.
