Some Long Island City Restaurants Collect Toys For Children Living In Shelters

By amol on December 21, 2013

Some Long Island City restaurants are offering patrons a tasty incentive to give back this holiday season.

Members of the newly-formed Long Island City Restaurant Association are collecting toys for dozens of children living in shelters in the neighborhood.

Each child filled out a Christmas list, and diners who make those wishes come true receive a free entree or drink.

“People are doing their last-minute shopping, so it kind of works out into their schedule, so they just add it to their lists, which is awesome,” said Carla Nicdao, general manager of Woodbines.

“It’s these 157 kids, and they need help, and they’re in our neighborhood,” said Rebecca Trent, owner of The Creek and the Cave. “We own restaurants, we own businesses in this neighborhood, and we should be giving back to the kids in need that live here.”

The toy drive ends on December 23.
