Queens gets new waterfront public park

By amol on August 28, 2013

NEW YORK (WABC) —
It’s officially opening day for a new park in western Queens.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held for Hunter’s Point South Waterfront Park Wednesday morning.

The 5-acre recreational space in Long Island City opened to the public last Tuesday.

There is a sun-bathing area, jogging and bike paths.

The park will eventually include shops and 5,000 apartments, many of them affordable housing.

It is located next to an East River ferry stop.

Construction on two 900-apartment high rises is under way. A new 1,100-seat school is set to open in September.
