One dead, four others injured after car jumps curb in Long Island City

By amol on March 11, 2013

One person is dead and four others are seriously injured after a car jumped the curb and slammed into a number of pedestrians near LaGuardia Community College, according to police.

The incident occurred at around 10:30 am near the LaGuardia Community College on Thomson Avenue and 30th Street in Long Island City.

Witnesses said the crosswalk was filled with pedestrians when a minivan driving east on Thomson tried to swerve to miss the crowd crossing the street, according to 1010 WINS’ reporter Al Jones. The van then jumped a curb near a bus stop and collided with several people on the sidewalk before hitting a tree.
