Queens World Film Festival begins Tuesday, March 5

Title: Heavy Girls, an independent German film

The third annual Queens World Film Festival will begin next Tuesday, with many of the screenings set to take place in Long Island City for the first time.

The festival, which features 104 international independent films, runs from March 5-10.

The opening ceremony, which features international short films, will take place at the Museum Of The Moving Image in Astoria. Other venues for the festival will include The Secret Theatre in Long Island City, Jackson Heights Cinema, and the Renaissance Charter School in Flushing.

The movies will be shown in blocks organized around a theme. The themes include:  Men are Dogs; It’s All About Women; Letting Go; Off the Beat Path and Against the Odds.

An awards ceremony will be held Saturday, March 9, where the best documentaries, animation and LGBT films will be highlighted.

Films that win awards on closing night will have encore screenings at The Secret Theatre on March 10.

There are submissions from the 22 countries.

The festival runs from March 5-10. An all-festival pass is $75. Individual tickets can be purchased for $10, or $6 for students and seniors. For more information, go to  www.queensworldfilmfestival.com
