Construction crane collapses in Long Island City

A crane collapsed at luxury condo and rental project in Long Island City this afternoon injuring several workers, officials said.

The accident, occurred around 2:30 p.m., at EastCoast, a complex of luxury residential towers overlooking the East River behind the iconic Pepsi-Cola sign.

“A few people were injured, no one was hurt seriously,” a leasing agent said by phone.

All of the injured were construction workers at the 4545 Center Boulevard site, she said.

A spokesman for developer TF Cornerstone, the owner of the project, didn’t immediately return a call for comment.
