Queens Pop-Up Market To Offer Fall Treats

By amol on October 26, 2012

ASTORIA — Astorians may have plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from, but this weekend they will also have a chance to taste artisanal food from around the borough when the Queens pop-up market comes to their neighborhood for the first time.

“We have wanted to host a market event in Astoria for some time now,” said Katrina Schultz Richter, founder of Queens County Market, a monthly pop-up that supports local food entrepreneurs. She noted that Astoria has been active in supporting local food businesses and that many residents have attended previous events in Sunnyside and Hunters Point.

“This time around, we’re making it easier for Astorians to find us,” she said.

The pop-up market is teaming up with Sac’s Place, a popular local Italian eatery, to host 10 vendors who will present their fall treats.

Long Island City’s Malu Ice Cream shop will be selling seasonal flavors including Apple Cider Cinnamon sorbet and Pumpkin Pie ice cream.

The Chocolate Swirl, an Astoria-based chocolate shop, will offer chocolate truffles and pumpkin and apple bars.

Emeche Cupcakes will present gourmet cupcakes infused with different alcohols, including the Espresso Martini Cupcake, a Kahlua and espresso soaked cake topped with vanilla bean buttercream.

Other specialty foods ready for sample is a creamy cheese spread produced by a Long Island City-based, Carib Delights; a handcrafted, preservative-free, six-pepper blend hot sauce from Sol Sauce; and Napa Cabbage Kimchi, a variation of a traditional Korean dish from Mrs. Kim’s Kimchi.

Sac’s Place will sell its pasta, typical of the Abruzzo region of Italy.

The market will be held on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Sac’s Place at 25-41 Broadway in Astoria.
