LIC Ice Cream Parlor Creating Obama and Romney Flavors

By amol on October 17, 2012

HUNTERS POINT — The presidential race is heating up, but one Queens business wants to keep the candidates stay cool.

A popular  Long Island City ice cream parlor — known for creating new flavors and naming them after local businesses and residents — now plans to enter the national debate with flavors based on President Barack Obama and his GOP challenger Mitt Romney.

Malu will create a Romney Ice Cream and an Obama Ice Cream and the shop is looking for customers’ suggestions about what ingredients should go into each flavor.

“We thought it would be a fun and yummy way of looking at such an important time in our history,” said Jennifer Lee Dudek, 34, who owns the store with her husband Sergio Garcia Aguilar.

Customers can leave their comments on the shop’s Facebook page or can come directly to the store at 12-09 Jackson Ave.

Dudek, who announced the store’s plans on Monday, said she has already got a couple of good tips.

“Some people suggested that one flavor could be red and the other one could be blue,” she said, adding that the blue one could be a blueberry pie flavor while the red one — a cherry pie variety.

Someone else suggested a Hawaiian flavor for Obama, which could consist of pineapple and Macadamia nuts, Dudek said, adding that it would be great to get a Massachusetts-inspired suggestion for a Romney flavor.

Dudek, who noted the store “wants to make it unbiased,” is open for suggestions until Oct. 25. The two ice cream flavors will be available the week before the election.

“Then we will see what tub finishes first,” Dudek joked.
