Queens School Supply Drive Aims to Help Kids in Need

By amol on August 7, 2012

LONG ISLAND CITY — Starting this week, Queens residents can drop off school supplies at five Queens Library branches and at Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer’s district office in an effort to help children from poor families get the necessary supplies for the upcoming school year.

This is the third time the councilman has conducted the school supply drive in his district, which includes Long Island City, Sunnyside, Woodside and Astoria, hoping to help kids in need.

In previous years, his office said, many Queens residents participated in the drive, giving all kinds of school supply from rulers to crayons and notebooks.

Supplies were later donated to local schools including P.S. 166 in Dutch Kills and I.S. 125 in Woodside. The schools then decided how to divide the supplies among children.

The drive will last until Sept. 10.

Residents can drop off school supplies at Jimmy Van Bramer’s district office (47-01 Queens Blvd., Ste. 205, Sunnyside) and at five Queens Library locations (Sunnyside, Woodside, Court Square, Long Island City and Broadway).
