What $1700 Can Rent You Around New York City

Welcome back to Curbed Comparisons, a column that explores what one can rent for a set dollar amount in various New York City neighborhoods. Is one man’s studio another man’s townhouse? Let’s find out! Today’s price: $1,700/month.

You asked for it, and now you’re going to get it. In the last one of these, a small contingent of commenters demanded a more reasonably priced Curbed Comparisons, so without further ado, we bring you Curbed Comparisons: Real People Edition. We hope this doesn’t go to your heads. Remember the old saying: “Be careful what you wish for, because you might end up wishing for all your internal organs to turn into gold. Wait, what?” (It’s something like that. Sayings are hard to remember.)

↑ Above, we have an Upper West Side studio apartment that sort of has two rooms, going for $1,750. We can’t in good faith say that it’s a large apartment, but it could be a lot smaller, and there’s laundry in the building, which is always nice.

↑ In DoBro, this studio apartment is available for $1,675. The kitchen looks surprisingly large, but everything else looks unsurprisingly small. The building has a gym, private garden, and laundry.

↑ Looking for a 2BR downtown? Chinatown it is! This unsettling 400-square-foot apartment is available for $1,750. The bathroom looks like the inside of a morgue, there’s a weird ventilation pipe situation happening in the living room, and the whole unit appears to be bathed in UV light. Other than that…looks great?
