MTA chairman Joseph Lhota acknowledged Tuesday that the long-plagued East Side Access mega-project may be another year behind schedule.

The East Side Access project, which will bring Long Island Rail Road service to Grand Central Terminal, may not be ready until 2019.

Last year, the MTA admitted it couldn’t finish in time to meet a 2016 completion date, and was aiming to finish by 2018.

At a Long Island Association meeting yesterday, Lhota told the audience his “expectation” was that it wouldn’t be running until 2019.

He said that “what’s holding up the project” are complications in boring a tunnel under the busy Harold Interlocking in Long Island City, which is used by the LIRR, Amtrak, New Jersey Transit and freight rail operation New York and Atlantic Railway.
