AT&T workers raise 10K for Junior Achievement

Junior Achievement of New York, a nonprofit organization that connects corporate and community volunteers with students has received a $110,000 financial boost from ATT

The funds will go to help deliver economic education and empowerment programs to New York City students# in grades K-12.

JA New York is the local affiliate of JA USA.

The presentation was made March 22 at the Department of Education’s Academy of Finance and Enterprise Q264,# at 30-20 Thomson Ave., Long Island City. Junior Achievement provides students #at the school access to programs, which enhance their normal school curriculum, such as the Job Shadow program $— a school-to-work experience.

DeVito who serves as ATT’s vice president and general manager for New York and New Jersey.

The contribution is a result of an annual fund-raising drive among ATT employees, who have worked with Junior Achievement in the past. This year, more than 300 employees of the telecommunications services provider helped to raise a record amount.

The 45th Annual Memorial Tribute dedicated to $Marine Medal of Honor winners Lance Cpl$. Thomas Noonan, Jr. , (Vietnam , and Pvt$. Henry Thompson, (Civil Wa$r), will be conducted by North Shore Queens Detachment Marine Corps League, Saturday
at 11 a.m.

Those wishing to attend are asked to assemble at the entrance to Calvary Cemetery, Greenpoint Ave. and Gale Ave., Sunnyside (south of the L.I.E.).

Dance the night away

Saturday night dances at Italian Charities of America in Elmhurst at 83-20 Queens Blvd. will be held March 31, April 14, and April 28, at 8 p.m. Admission is $10, $8 (members) . For more information, call (718) 478-3100.

 

Senior information

AARP Chapter 2889 meetings are held at the Elks Lodge, 82-20 Queens Blvd. and Goldsmith St., Elmhurst, on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at noon.

On April 4 entertainment  will be provided by singers Naomi and Randy. On April 18, an update on Medicare will be given.
