Queens — Aria aficionados rejoice: the Metropolitan Opera is coming to the Long Island City waterfront this summer.
On Thursday, Aug. 9th, as part of The Metropolitan Opera Summer Recital Series, three rising opera stars Deanna Breiwick (soprano), Alexander Lewis (tenor) and Edward Parks (baritone) will perform arias and duets from a variety of operas — including La Bohème, La Traviata, Faust, and Don Pasquale, along with selections from the American Songbook — during a free performance in Socrates Sculpture Park.
The artists will sing on a makeshift stage made from a specially fitted truck for the performance, the second time the Metropolitan Opera has come to Socrates Sculpture Park.
“It was a huge success last year,” said Shaun Leonardo, director of public programs and community relations at Socrates Sculpture Park. “People brought their own chairs and blankets. We had about 1,700 guests.”
