P.S. 78
The public school for the Hunter's Point core of LIC is PS 78, which is right on the waterfront.
The data on this school suggests it's easily the best in the vicinity (public school in Western Queens that you could realistically send your kid too), but that it's only an OK school by NYC standards. There are far better schools at the edge of Queens in Little Neck or Flushing or in parts of Brooklyn or Manhattan.
GreatSchool's analyzes some of the scores etc and gives it an 8. There are a good number of 10s around town, so the 8 is only OK.
