LIC Parks, Green and Overgrown

LIC is full of parks, the most spectacular of which might be Gantry Park, with the two iconic, black structures framing goregous views of midtown Manhattan.

But other parks have other virtues. Location, convenience, utility (there are a kid fun gym and a dog run at 21st and 44th Rd). Vote now in the new poll for your favorite park in LIC.

The LICBDC rounds up recent parks news on its site, in the June 4th issue of Conduit:

Because of flaws like closed bathrooms, broken water fountains, and glass-littered ballfields, almost 40 percent of the city's neighborhood parks received failing grades in a study by an advocacy group that also found sharp contrasts in park quality, with the most problems in Queens and the Bronx . New Yorkers for Parks surveyed 181 parks. Manhattan had 7 of the top 10 parks, but not one was in Queens or the Bronx . The top-rated neighborhood park in Queens -- Doughboy Plaza , a neatly kept oasis in Woodside -- ranked 18th in the city. LIC doesn't have many parks, but the near-spotless Socrates Sculpture Park , on the East River , got an A-minus. Murray Playground on 21st Street , 45th Ave. in LIC got a C-minus.
